Thomas Deacon Academy

Trust: we are honest

Discipline: we never give up

Aspiration: we want the very best

Thomas Deacon Academy was one of the first Academies to be created and continues to thrive through our core values of Trust, Discipline and Aspiration. As we enter the exciting new phase of our future we continue to offer an aspirational learning environment for students from the ages of 7 to 18 years old. Our modern facilities, TDA Junior, Sixth Form Study Centre and 43 acre campus allow us to provide the ultimate in educational choice.

Most recently, July 2015, Ofsted graded the Academy as ‘Good’ in all areas and we are moving forward in our continued journey towards ‘Outstanding’.

The Job

We are looking to appoint a Support Worker to provide daily support to a visually impaired Geography Teacher. The role will include assisting with and reading marking material following guidance from the teacher, preparation and matching of resources for lessons and carrying out visual checks within the classroom. The Support Worker will not be required to teach lessons or manage student behaviour, the focus is to support the teacher in carrying out their role effectively.

The successful candidate will need to be extremely organised and be able to assist the teacher when required throughout the working day. As tasks and priorities can differ, they will also need to be able to adapt quickly to change. The candidate will require patience within the classroom and be able to communicate effectively with the teacher. The relationship between the successful candidate and the teacher will be key and therefore, they should be able to demonstrate rapport with ease.

What we can offer you:

  • Excellent working facilities in a modern and inspirational environment
  • Opportunity to work with a dedicated and committed team of professionals
  • Professional development opportunities and a high quality induction programme
  • Use of Academy facilities (including a gym)
  • LGPS Pension Scheme

TD Education Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The Academy will require the successful candidate to provide satisfactory references and undertake an Enhanced Check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
